A Most Excellent Adventure

We now have a full season in Arkansas under our belt. My first observation is the hunting was better than I thought it would be. The amount of geese in NE Arkansas is overwhelming. From late October to the end of November the specklebelly numbers were almost unbelievable. Once the season got underway limits of specks were routine. By the tenth of December, the snow geese arrived in force. That is when things got very interesting. Hunting pressure was almost non existent. Huge numbers and no hunting pressure meant spectacular decoying action. It was truly unbelievable.

This is the beginning of a weekly blog where I will share my experiences hunting in NE Arkansas. Looking forward to writing about my adventures or sometimes my misadventure.

RANDY'S

HUNTING TIPS

#1

Use BBB or BB shot. 10 gauge is best, but 12 gauge is fine.

#2

Wear something that will keep your backside dry on cold wet ground. Goose hunting is an extreme sport, and you are in the elements - be prepared.

#3

Wear dark or white clothing. Do not wear hunter orange. Unlike deer hunting, we do not need to see each other since we are shooting in the same direction.
